Who am I?
My name is Pedro Feio, born in a great small city called Coimbra, in a great small country called Portugal. I currently live in London, England (a great big city… ), and I’ve lived for a brief time in the US, while studying in Pittsburgh, PA.

What have I been up to?
I’ve been designing and building software for over 15 years, and I’ve been studying/dealing with computers since I was a kid in the 80s (huh…80s?… curious… now I’m feeling ooooold…)…
My first computer was a classic Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and my first programming language was classic Basic.
I’ve worked as a developer/software engineer, project manager, team leader, scrum master and software and solutions architect. Which, as you can tell, are some quite diverse roles within the world of IT, but all in the “theme” of designing/building/delivering software solutions.
Through the years I have worked for multiple companies, from Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups. And on a wide variety of businesses, from health care to finance, passing through car rental and telemetry. That’s the beauty of working in a line of work that’s necessary in all segments of modern society: you get to meet amazing people from all sectors of society and have the privilege to get to know our world a bit better. It’s pretty awesome! 🙂

Professionally, I’m mostly interested in 4 areas of software engineering:
-
Architecture and Software Design (sort of obvious considering the theme for this website, no?)
-
Coding (no matter what you design, if it doesn’t get built, it’s just boxes and lines…)
-
Agile Development methodologies (Scrum, DevOps, Kanban, XP, SAFe, …what’s not to like!)
-
Development management (building great teams and tying together people and technology… this is really a small world in itself)
In the last few years, I’ve been working as a software/solutions architect through my company Blue Oak Software Engineering. I work in some internal projects, but mostly as a contractor.
